John Madden the Voice of Football Steps Out of The Booth

orbitcast.com

After 30 NFL seasons, John Madden has decided to retire at 73.  Madden is known for his Monday Night Football analysts for many years, and for the last 3 seasons moved to NBC Sunday Night Football.

Also, "Madden NFL Football" is the top selling video game of all time.  John Madden is known to be afraid of flying and travels by his own private bus to games each week.

I wonder if longtime  Philadelphia Phillies announcer Harry Kalas who also was the voice of NFL Films who died earlier this week  in the broadcasting booth, pushed along John Madden. Harry Kalas was also 73 has been announcing for 38 years.
We will miss hearing Madden's voice this football season.

So sad, this is what I just said to a colleague:

Whoa… Didn’t see this coming. I really thought he’d do it forever. Sounds wrong in light of what happened to Kalas this week, but I thought Madden would die in the booth. And my favorite of his lines is still “If they called me Coach, they knew me from the Raiders…. John from broadcasting, and Madden from the game”

It will be sad...I bet he will still be involved in football somehow. I can't see him leaving the game completley.

Ditto, can't imaging he' wouldn't go stir crazy at home. he'll stay local so he doesn't have to do long distance bus rides any more.
